Syllabus

Admission Policy: Courses offered by A+ Institute are open to all persons whether or not they are licensed real estate agents.  No person will be denied admission based solely on race, creed, color, sex, national origin, religion, familial status, or sexual orientation. We strictly adhere to all Equal Opportunity and ADA laws and statutes.

Attendance:  All courses by A+ come in cd-rom format and are offered through distance education. Attendance in a classroom is not required nor is it mandatory. Interaction is automatically timed and tracked within the program and will provide an accounting of all time spent in the course. This information is stored in the student transcript record and verification by the Administrator is required before credit or certificate of completion can be granted. Students work at their own pace; however, some courses may be time-sensitive. The student has one year from date of purchase to complete any one course. Courses not completed in one year or less will be considered "abandoned". No credit will be given for these courses.

Course Materials: All course materials needed to successfully complete the course are included in your order with exception of the final exam (which is delivered to an approved proctor upon completion of the required hours). Some courses may require the use of a calculator, which students must provide themselves. Additionally, all material is the copyright protected property of A+ Institute. Students receive a one-user license to use the CD ROM courseware, textbook, or outline, and instructions for proper completion and submission. Duplication or copying of courseware, books, outlines, or any course material is forbidden by law and strictly enforced.

Reinstatement Policy: If you have not completed the course(s) after 12 months and want to continue, there will be a $25.00 re-instatement fee per course in order for you to get credit for the course. This good only for the purchaser of the course. Transferred courses do not apply. If after 24 months, student hasn't completed the course, the must purchase a new course and the current course price will be charged. We have a $25.00 NSF or returned check fee. If you pay by check we hold materials for 10 days until the check clears our bank.

Completion Requirements:  All students must, without exception, complete the required number of clock hours, take the final exam, and submit their user files to A+ along with the Student Registration form, Proctor form, and Sworn Statement of Identity form, prior to receiving a certificate of completion. These forms may be found in the Student Help Center of our web page at www.aplusnow.com under the California Forms section.

Cause for Dismissal: A student may be dismissed and terminated from A+ Institute by the Administrator or the Instructor for failure to pay tuition, fraud, misrepresentation of identity, cheating, abuse or disruption of the electronic communication options, or damage to any school property, systems, or programs. Dismissed students will not receive certificates or refunds (see refund policy, if applicable). Dismissed students must apply to the Administrator in writing to be considered for re-admission.

Refund Policy: If you are not completely satisfied with our courses, you may return all materials within eight (8) days for a 100% refund (excluding shipping, handling, and registration fee) Non-Refundable fee=$25.00. (example:  $99.00 course fee,  less $25.00 non-refundable fee = $74.00 refund to student) Refund payments will be made to the student no later than 30 days of written notice. There will be no refunds after midnight on the eighth  business day after the course is mailed.  However, an unused course may be transferred to another individual at the discretion and approval of A+. The transfer MUST be completed within one year from date of purchase.

Examinations: Students must pass the final exam with a score of at least 60% correct.  Copying or reproduction of examinations, questions, answers, or explanations in any manner or form is forbidden and cause for immediate dismissal

Final Exams: The method we use to provide the student with the final examination includes steps to protect the integrity and prevent cheating on the examination.  Following California’s rules on test administration by means of traditional correspondence course requirements, the student must take the final exam in the presence of an “authorized” proctor. The final exam is on a separate CD from the course and is neither downloadable nor printable.  Upon completion and verification of the required clock hours, the exam CD will be mailed to an authorized proctor. The student must take the exam in front of the authorized proctor. When completed, the proctor is to mail back the exam results and CD to A Plus.

You must complete all required chapters and complete the required number of clock hours. When you have completed all clock hours a notification will appear on your screen. IMPORTANT!  California State law requires you to take the final exam in the presence of an approved proctor. Upon notification, you must remove your CD and call A+ at 1-800 290 0021 for approval of your proctor BEFORE taking the final exam.

NOTE: A final examination is required for all statutory and continuing education courses. All final exams offered by A+ are closed book examinations. We do this to help ensure mastery of the course material.

Final Exam Procedures:  California’s traditional correspondence course testing procedures require that the final exam is administered and supervised by a person who is not related by blood, marriage, or any other relationship to the student taking the exam which would pose a conflict of interest. (for example: the real estate broker is which the applicant is working for).

The final examination may be taken at an A+ Institute approved location, or the student may suggest a proctor or entity to administer the exam. Please call A+ Institute BEFORE completing the required clock hours so we provide a proctor and test site to you.

Once the proctor and exam site is approved, A Plus Institute will send the examination CD to the proctor.  Upon completion of the final exam, the proctor will send the results and exam CD directly to A+ Institute for grading and issuing of the appropriate certificate. You may keep the course materials CDfor your future reference; however, you will not have access to the final examination.

Certificates:  Certificates are available to students who have paid tuition, completed and turned in the student registration form, sworn statement of identity form, authorized proctor form, completed the required course hours, and passed the final exam. Getting your certificate of completion to you is our top priority. We normally process certificates and mail them out within 24 hours of receiving your exam results. The exceptions to normal processing times are weekends and holidays. If we receive your information on Saturday your certificate will be processed and mailed out Monday morning. If you need your certificate faxed to you, either call A+ or include a fax number when you email your user log to us, and we are more than happy to do this for you after we receive your exam results from the proctor.

School Records: A+ will maintain school records on CE courses for a period of 5 years. Statutory courses are required to be maintained indefinitely for the student to obtain a duplicate certificate upon request. The information we maintain is: student name, address, date of enrollment, date certificate issued, number of clock hours completed, and examination results, in addition to duplicate course completion certificates. When requested by governing jurisdictions, student records are provided to the Department of Licensing for review and audit.

Trouble Shooting: Technical support is available by telephone, email, or reviewing our FAQ’s section in this handbook. Students are required to read the FAQs section of this handbook and attempt all applicable instructions to correct any problem BEFORE contacting the administrator for technical assistance. Most problems can be solved by reviewing this section. AFTER the student has attempted each possible solution, if the problem has not been resolved contact Tech Support Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1-800-290-0021, or email eval@aplusnow.com.  When emailing A+, please include your name, email address, the operating system you are using (i.e. Windows XP), the name of the course you are taking, if you are using the 3.5” floppy disk, and a description of the problem. If you are receiving an error message, please include the message. This courtesy helps our Tech Support Team out a lot!

Course and Instructor Evaluation:  The amendments to Commissioner’s Regulations 3000 and 3006, requires that course providers notify students of the availability of the Course Instructor and Evaluation Form (RE 318a) on the DRE website at www.dre.ca.gov. The evaluation form is located in the lower right portion of the homepage. After completing the evaluation, the student can electronically submit the form to DRE by selecting the “Send your Evaluation to the DRE!” at the bottom of the page.

The purpose of this evaluation is to assist the Department of Real Estate in better serving the educational needs of real estate licensees, and to provide feedback to A+ Institute on the effectiveness of our courses.

Disclaimer: The California Department of Real Estate approves courses for continuing education, however this approval does not constitute  an endorsement of the views or opinions which are expressed by the course sponsor, instructor, authors or lecturers.
