Finding a Cure for Autism
Susan Maxwell works with former NBC Executive to Find a Cure for Autism
At one time or another, every person is affected by adversity. Sometimes, a
larger challenge can alter our direction and foster a new perception of reality
we will carry for the rest of our lives. Other times, the greatest adversity is
viewed as a tremendous opportunity that redefines our existence and paves the
way for greatness. It is often said, “It is not the load you carry, but how you
carry it.” In the spirit of such philosophy, the Martin County real estate
community is blessed to have Susan Maxwell recognize her greatest opportunity,
the fight against Autism.
When Susan’s son, Matthew, was diagnosed with Autism in 1999, it was the
beginning of a wonderful journey that has taken her farther down the path of
community service than she ever could have imagined. As the co-chair for Walk
Now for Autism, Susan was in good company with former CEO of NBC Universal, Bob
Wright and his wife, Suzanne, to raise money to help find a cure for Autism on
Sunday, March 2 at East Library Grounds in West Palm Beach. With a live band
playing for the 3,000+ participants, her efforts helped the event increase the
attendance over last year by a remarkable 50%. At the end of the day, the event
took in over $230,000 for children with different sensory issues and Susan was
excited as, “each event helps build awareness and brings us a step closer to
finding a cure.”
As Autism Awareness Month approaches in April, Susan stated, “I am very lucky to
work with such great people for a terrific cause.”
Susan Maxwell and her partner Gabe Sanders is a full time realtor at Premier
Realty Group. Susan experiences the same results helping her clients as she
does helping the effort to find a cure for Autism. She explains, “Whether you
work to achieve your goals by co-chairing an event, or you work to achieve your
goals for your clients, the same principles apply. It’s a matter of dedication
and perseverance to attain your objectives, despite the circumstances. Success
is a state of mind.”
